Meet Penelope

Everyone meet Penelope.

Back in Sept of 2023, we responded to a message about a Husky who was on the loose with her "ears cut off" and a broken leg in Georgia. We were able to catch her and she was in pretty rough shape. The shelter was notified, she was scanned for a microchip and pain management was started. Once her stray hold was officially over she was transferred into our care and we had her fully assessed.

Her missing ears are a result of flies and chewing them off. And she was of course she's heartworm positive. And as we feared, Penelope was also suffering from bilateral mpl (Medial Patella Luxation). She required surgery on both of her knees. 

That's why, here we are Jan of 2025 and Penelope is still with us, because she's had a long, but successful road to recovery! We are happy to say Penny has received a clean bill of health and is now with us in MD to begin searching for a forever home. Penny is 4 years old and the sweetest little thing you ever did meet. 

She loves every human she meets and prefers to be around dogs who are low key. While she loves to play with humans, she's not a fan of wrestling with the other Huskies. Penny is such a good girl and would make for an easy first time Husky or companion to an older pack. She tap dances when she's excited and gives the cutest kisses. She's pretty quiet for a Husky but when she woos she has a deep voice. 

True to the breed, Penny can be an escape artist. She's not a fan of crate training, but because she's housebroken and non-destructive she doesn't really need a crate. She will find any weakness in a fence so if you have a fenced yard it needs to be a tall, secure one. Good news is, Penny would be fine with a family who will walk her and take her for bathroom breaks on a leash. So no fence is required to adopt her. 

Penelope is very self sufficient and doesn't ask for much besides a few walks, some human affection, and cuddle time. She's always smiling and a true joy to be around. She'll make any home very lucky. 

~~Husky Education And Rescue Team is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you’re interested in.
